1. Introduction
The CAS-ANSO Conference Program has been launched by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) as a joint initiative. The objective of the Program is to facilitate the organizations of workshops, symposia, and forums in a range of scientific disciplines by ANSO members, thereby providing a platform for scientists from ANSO member countries and beyond to engage in communication and potential cooperation.
2. Eligibility
1) Where and When:
The proposed meeting should be held outside the Chinese mainland in 2025.
2) Format:
The proposed meeting can be either an independent event or a parallel session/side event of a high-level scientific conference or forum.
3) Theme:
The proposed meeting must focus on science-related fields, especially those closely related to the sustainable and high-quality development, and improvement of the people’s well-being in the Belt and Road regions and beyond. Priorities will be set to climate change, agriculture and food security, public health, biodiversity, and green technology.
4) Leading Host Institution (Proponent’s Affiliation):
Eligible leading hosts (i.e. the Proponent’s Affiliations) are ANSO member organizations outside the Chinese mainland. The CAS-ANSO funds will be granted to the leading host for management purposes.
5) Co-host(s):
It is required to have at least one co-host institution from ANSO member organizations, preferably from a country other than the country where the leading host institution is located.
6) Person in Charge:
The individual in charge of the proposed meeting should be affiliated to the leading host institution.
7) Scale:
a.The meeting should include a minimum of 50 on-site participants (including speakers, moderators, and audience).
b.It is encouraged to provide online channels to reach a wider audience and maximize the impact of the event.
8) Speakers:
a.There should be at least 10 speakers for an independent event, and at least 6 speakers for a parallel session/side event of scientific conferences or forums.
b.It is expected to consider the gender and geographical balance.
3. Funding
1) The program may sponsor up to 40,000 USD for organizing the event. The amount towards a specific event will be decided upon its length/time, location, scale, and modality, etc.
2) It is strongly recommended that the leading host and co-host(s) explore other funding sources, including co-funding, in-kind contributions and additional resources, which will also be taken into account during the selection process.
4. How to apply
Please read the Call for Applications carefully to ensure the validity of the application.
1) The leading host is required to submit an implementation plan (see Appendix 1 for template). It should be based on preliminary discussions and consensus between the leading host and co-host(s).
2) A joint letter from the leading host and co-host(s) signed by heads/representatives of each party is required.
3) An ANSO member organization is permitted to submit a maximum of 2 proposals as the leading host institution.
4) The aforementioned documents should be submitted to conference@anso.org.cn before 20 October 2024.
5. Selection Process
1) All proposals are initially screened by the ANSO Secretariat to ascertain their eligibility.
2) Only those proposals deemed eligible will be reviewed by international experts.
3) All applicants will be informed of the results of their proposals via email.
Notes:
It should be noted that any alterations to the leading host and the co-host(s) from the ANSO member organizations are not permitted during the implementation phase.
