TIB Held a Meeting on Progress of ANSO Collaborative Research Project

Study on precision fermentation and application of Chinese herbal medicine

On October 28, Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held a meeting on the progress of the ANSO Collaborative Research Project entitled “Study on precision fermentation and application of Chinese herbal medicine based on synthetic biology” via online and offline. Over thirty participants from the cooperative organizations including Institute of Subtropical Agriculture of CAS, Jiangxi Academy of Sciences, Konkuk University (South Korea), Sylhet Agricultural University (Bangladesh), Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia), and Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (Singapore) attended the meeting. Prof. CAO Jinghua, Executive Director of the ANSO Secretariat, and Prof. WANG Qinhong, Deputy Director of TIB attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

Prof. WANG gave welcome to the participants and introduced the latest progress and achievements of TIB in international cooperation serving for the Belt and Road Initiative with the support of ANSO. He said that TIB will support the implementation of the project and further promote the international cooperation in the area of industrial biotechnology by giving full play to the global platform and network of ANSO.

The Project aims to meet the needs of animal disease prevention and control and the green development of animal husbandry, committed to application research and demonstration of innovative feeding Chinese herbal medicines and precision fermentation products with different parties to provide scientific and technological support for solving key livelihood and well-being issues in the “Belt and Road” countries. Prof. WU Xin, the project investigator, introduced the overall plan of the project and progress in personnel exchange and cultivation, research output and industrialization. Later, core members of the project introduced the research progress in the construction and metabolic engineering of high-yield active components of herbal medicine, screening and precision fermentation of herbal medicine plant fermentation strains, construction of lignocellulose enzyme system and development of applied technology in animals. After the presentations, the participants had a full exchange and discussion on accelerating the implementation of the project and the follow-up work plan.

Prof. CAO concluded the meeting with the appreciation of efforts of the project team. He pointed out that ANSO has been actively promoting international cooperation since its establishment, and has developed into an important collaborative platform for global good. He hoped the project team will work closely to achieve more scientific and technological breakthroughs in resource innovation of natural products of Chinese herbal medicines and the healthy development of green animal husbandry, accelerate the transformation of the research achievements, and create more opportunities for the economy development of the ‘Belt and Road’ countries.
