International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA), one of the world's largest events on environmental change, has reached its 21st edition in 2023. With the theme "Time for Change," this year's Congress brought together approximately 3,000 researchers from 103 countries, engaging in 14 parallel sessions to address key issues in Quaternary research. The opening ceremony, held on 14 July, witnessed the esteemed presence of Sergio Mattarella, Italian President, and Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research. The team from the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ITPCAS) and The Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) participated in this significant gathering.

Chaired by Prof. Laura Sadori, Vice Chairperson of Sapienza University, the opening ceremony welcomed esteemed guests and participants who have contributed to this momentous event. Prof. Francisco L. Chiocci, Chair of the 21st INQUA Congress, provided an overview of INQUA's history and the agenda for the Congress. Prof. Thijs van Kolfschoten, President of INQUA, delivered a speech emphasizing the critical role of Quaternary science and the need for INQUA to lead the debate and foster international cooperation. He underscored the theme of "Time for Change," stating that it not only applies to reducing our ecological footprint but also necessitates a shift in attitude, with solidarity being a key component. Furthermore, he called for the combination of responsibility and solidarity to address the challenges ahead. Mrs. Anna Maria Bernini highlighted the significance of specialized branches of science in comprehending and addressing the environmental impact of human activities. She urged young students, researchers, and the scientific community to contribute to collective well-being and shape a positive agenda regarding the role of science in global debates.

During the Congress, ITPCAS and ANSO organized a stand of the exposition that showcased six posters representing various organizations, including ITPCAS, ANSO, the Key Laboratory of Tibetan Plateau Earth System, Environment and Resources (TPESER), and the Association for Trans-Eurasia Exchange and Silk Road Civilizations Development (ATES). The stand gained significant attention and popularity, with active engagement with participants through meaningful discussions and the distribution of designed products and informative brochures. ANSO's presence at the Congress has been marked by its active participation, valuable contributions, and increased influence, furthering the spirit of international cooperation and fostering solidarity among researchers worldwide.
