From July 2 to 10, the delegation led by Prof. YANG Min, Head of ANSO International Network of Environmental Technology and Industry Alliance (ETIA), Director of National Engineering Research Center of Industrial Wastewater Detoxication and Resource Recovery, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), visited Sri Lanka and conducted in-depth exchanges with the Ministry of Water Supply, Ministry of Health, Central Northern Provincial Council, Board of Investment, National Water Supply and Drainage Board and other institutions in Sri Lanka on a series of topics of rural drinking water safety, cause study of Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu), and the construction of ecological industrial parks, to further promote the China-Sri Lanka scientific and technological cooperation with a focused and clear direction.
On July 10, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena received the delegation at the Prime Minister's Office. During the meeting, Prof. YANG gave a detailed introduction to Prime Minister Gunawardena on the project progress of the China-Sri Lanka Joint Research and Demonstration Center for Water Technology (JRDC), and proposed broader cooperation with Sri Lanka based on the JRDC platform. Prime Minister Gunawardena expressed his sincere gratitude to Chinese scientists for the contributions to improving the livelihood of Sri Lankans. He said that the efforts of Chinese scientists are priceless for the country and people of Sri Lanka, and he hopes the cooperation between the two sides will achieve new results. He also stated that Sri Lanka will provide all possible support for the cooperation project.
The delegation then went to the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka. Ambassador QI Zhenhong highly praised the efforts and achievements made by the delegation in promoting China-Sri Lanka scientific and technological cooperation since the beginning of this year. He emphasized that the JRDC platform should be fully utilized to carry out all-round China-Sri Lanka scientific and technological cooperation, benefiting the people of Sri Lanka and further radiating to neighboring countries, and making greater contributions to sustainable development for the countries in South Asia and the Indian Ocean Rim.
During the visit, the delegation also had exchanges with the College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, and College of Medicine of Peradeniya University, which is one of the ANSO Members, sorted out the focus and mechanism of future cooperation between the two sides, and had communication and interaction with the main staff of JRDC. Institute of Hydrobiology, Aerospace Information Research Institute of CAS, and Lihe Technology and Taining Technology from ANSO Association-ETIA attended all the events.
