Beijing, 11 July 2025 – Prof. Liu Weidong, Executive Director of ANSO and Director General of the Bureau of International Cooperation (BIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), welcomed a delegation from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), an ANSO member, at the CAS headquarters. The delegation, led by AIT President Prof. Pai-Chi Li, sought to enhance collaboration between ANSO and AIT.

 

 

During the meeting, Prof. Liu acknowledged AIT’s active engagement in international cooperation with ANSO and CAS. He outlined ANSO’s development goals and priorities, introduced the four categories of CAS-ANSO joint programs, and highlighted ANSO’s recent progress. He also provided an overview of CAS, its structure, function, and international outreaches. Prof. Liu encouraged AIT to take full advantage of ANSO’s programs to enhance partnership with CAS and other ANSO member organizations and expressed interest in exploring new opportunities for collaboration.

 

Prof. Li expressed gratitude for ANSO’s continued support since AIT joined the alliance in early 2022, noting that several AIT teams had benefited from ANSO-funded initiatives. He emphasized AIT’s strong ties with regional research institutions, foundations, and enterprises, as well as its mission to address critical challenges in Asia related to environment, energy, and agriculture—a vision closely aligned with ANSO’s mission. Prof. Li confirmed AIT’s interest in discussing in more details on joint collaboration initiatives with ANSO.

 

A/Prof. Dr. Xue Wenchao highlighted AIT’s existing cooperation with both ANSO and CAS-affiliated institutions, respectively, as well as the work of AIT’s Belt and Road Research Center in promoting cooperation between research institutions and enterprises for the sustainable development of the region.

 

The discussion also covered cooperation opportunities in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) governance.
