CAS-ANSO Fellowship Program 2025:
Call for Application
1.Introduction
Aligned with the UN Decade of Sustainable Development, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) jointly established the CAS-ANSO Fellowship Program (hereinafter referred to as "the Fellowship"). This initiative aims to strengthen regional and global scientific and technological capabilities, while fostering broader collaboration and knowledge exchange among Belt and Road countries and beyond.
2.Categories and Eligibility
The Fellowship welcomes applications from scientists and international cooperation experts (not from Chinese mainland) to pay short-term visit to or spend months doing research on site at CAS institutions and universities.
Category I: ANSO Partner Fellowship
Eligibility: Senior researchers and management staff from scientific and educational institutions outside Chinese mainland. Priority will be given to personnel from ANSO members.
Time period: 1-2 weeks.
Allowance: RMB 10,000/week (pre-tax) + one-time round-trip travel subsidy.
Category II: ANSO Visiting Scientist Fellowship
Eligibility: Scholars from scientific and educational institutions outside Chinese mainland. They could be assistant professors (including postdocs), associate professors, professors, or professionals at a comparable level in related fields.
Time period: 1-6 months.
Allowance:
RMB 15,000/month (pre-tax) for assistant professors (including postdocs) or comparable-level professionals, One round-trip travel subsidy;
RMB 25,000/month (pre-tax) for associate professors or comparable-level professionals, One round-trip travel subsidy;
RMB 35,000/month (pre-tax) for full professors or comparable-level professionals, One round-trip travel subsidy.
Category III: CAS-ANSO Alumni Fellowship
Eligibility: graduates of the CAS-TWAS Scholarship / CAS “the Belt and Road” Master's Fellowship Program / CAS-ANSO Scholarship (formerly known as the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents) who work in S&T fields in the Belt and Road countries and regions.
Time period: 1-2 weeks.
Allowance:
RMB 10,000/week (pre-tax)+ Round-trip travel subsidy.
3.Application Procedures
The evaluation for 2025 will take place from May to June. Please note that applications submitted after April 24th will not be considered.
3.1 Required materials
Your application should include the following items:

2) A recent passport-sized digital photo (mandatory, in color)
3) Scanned copy of first page of valid passport with personal information (mandatory)
4) Recommendation letters from CAS host researcher (mandatory)
5) Detailed plan (mandatory)
Including but not limited to: collaboration background; objective; detailed description; timetable; predictable results.
6) Diploma and proof of scholarship (mandatory for CAS-ANSO Alumni Fellowship applicants)
Diploma awarded by UCAS or USTC, along with the Scholarship Offer of CAS-TWAS Scholarship / CAS “the Belt and Road” Master's Fellowship Program / CAS-ANSO Scholarship (formerly known as the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents).
3.2 Step-by-step Application Guideline
1) Applicants should contact and secure agreement from a qualified CAS host researcher affiliated with a CAS institution prior to application submission;
2) Complete all required materials specified in 3.1;
3) Applicants must submit their complete application package to their host researcher, who will be responsible for final submission through official channels.;
4) Submissions via non-approved methods (e.g., direct email) will not be considered;
5) Applicants should allow adequate time for their host researcher to complete the submission process before the application deadline;
6) Applications will undergo expert review. Final decisions will be communicated to applicants through their host researchers.
Note: All funded activities under the 2025 CAS-ANSO Fellowship must be completed by December 31, 2026.
Applicants may not simultaneously apply for both CAS PIFI Program and CAS-ANSO Fellowship.
Applicants may only apply for one category of the CAS-ANSO Fellowship per application cycle.
Applicants who have received sponsorship through the CAS PIFI Program in 2023, 2024, or 2025 are not eligible for CAS-ANSO Fellowship funding.
