Progress on the Project of Integration, Experiment and Demonstration of Photovoltaic Technology in Ecological Environment Management of the Aral Sea

Under the support of the Project of "Integration, Experiment and Demonstration of Photovoltaic Technology in Ecological Environment Management of the Aral Sea" funded by ANSO Joint Research Cooperation Special Fund and the Xinjiang Energy Chemical Co., Ltd. of the State Power Investment Corporation, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences(XIEG) has implemented a demonstration project combining photovoltaic technology with water-saving irrigation for cotton and integrated water-fertilizer management in Nukus, Karakalpakstan Republic, Uzbekistan. Over two consecutive years, this initiative has achieved water savings and increased cotton yields, significantly contributing to addressing water scarcity and salinization in the Aral Sea basin. The local government has highly recognized the demonstration project. In a recent letter

The Former President of Nepal Highlighted the Importance of ANSO Funded Research Project on Climate Change Impact in Agriculture

The final dissemination workshop of the collaborative research project, “Assessing households’ adaptive capacity to climate change in the diverse socio-cultural and geographical landscape of south Asia”, funded by the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO), was successfully held in Kathmandu on 4-5 December, 2024. The workshop brought together 110 experts, scholars, government officials, and NGO representatives from Nepal, China, Bangladesh and India to share the research findings and promote discussions on climate change. The project, which began in 2022, spans three years and focuses on analyzing the impacts of climate change on the livelihoods of farmers in Nepal, India, and Bangladesh, as well as assessing the adaptive capacity of local households. The research team, consisting of eight researchers from four countries, provided scientific data and policy recommendations related to climate change adaptation.

IUE-CAS Hosts Training on Biomass Low Carbon Technologies and ASEAN Symposium on Biomass Applications

Biomass is the fourth largest resource after coal, oil and natural gas, and is also a green and sustainable energy source. In the context of the "dual carbon" goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, it is of great significance to explore the high-value conversion and utilization of biomass resources to replace traditional energy and resources, as well as carbon sequestration and emission/pollution reduction, and provide safe food and clean water for human beings.

HiRisk-Detector: an early warning algorithm for high-risk variants of SARS-CoV-2

With the support of ANSO collaborative research project entitled “Study on accurate early warning methods for high-risk variants of global emerging infectious diseases”, the team led by Prof. SONG Shuhui from China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB) developed HiRisk-Detector, a machine-learning algorithm for the early detection and warning of high-risk SARS-CoV-2 variants. The research article entitled “Machine learning early detection of SARS-CoV-2 high-risk variants” was published online in the journal Advanced Science on October 14, 2024. This research provides technical support for precise monitoring and early warning of SARS-CoV-2 variants, contributing to the global control of COVID-19.
