TIB Held a Meeting on Progress of ANSO Collaborative Research Project From 2022 to 2023
Study on Precision Fermentation and application of Chinese Herbal Medicine
17 10, 2023
The “International Symposium on Innovation of Natural Product Resources of Traditional Medicine in the Asia-Pacific Region” was successfully held from August 26 to 28, 2023 by the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), supported by the ANSO Collaborative Research Project entitled “Study on precision fermentation and application of Chinese herbal medicine based on synthetic biology”. The conference focused on the topics of development and application of natural product resources of herbal medicine, synthetic biotechnology and innovation in natural product materials, physiological and pharmacological activities of natural products of traditional medicine, etc. Around 300 participants from over ten countries attended the conference on-site, and tens of thousands of viewers joined the conference online.
A project workshop was organized during the conference. Prof. Wu Xin, Principal Investigator of the project, presided over the workshop and introduced the project progress and achievements based on the research output, talent cultivation, and technology transformation. Core project members demonstrated the latest research progress in the areas of screening of endophytic bacteria in plants, precise fermentation processes for herbal medicine, preparation of fermentation products, and the research development of application technologies in animals. Project collaborators from the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, CAS (China), Konkuk University (South Korea), Jiangxi Academy of Sciences (China), Sylhet Agricultural University (Bangladesh) and Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia) jointly discussed about the future work plan. The workshop concluded with a consensus reached by Prof. Wu and Uzbek experts regarding exploring cooperation in the field of development and application of herbal medicine resources.
This project effectively promotes the application of herbal medicine and its fermentation products in the prevention and control of animal diseases as well as green production of healthy aquaculture industry in the Belt and Road countries. Through international R&D cooperation, this project will also cultivate high-level talents for basic research and industrial development, enhance their innovation capabilities, and play a positive role in promoting human and animal health in the B&R countries.
