ANSO collaborative research will be jointly initiated and supported by ANSO members, institutes, universities and international organizations focusing on hotspots and urgent issues related to environmental change, green development, human wellbeing and sustainable development. The following are special focus areas:

Scientific Research Orientations: Climate Change and Adaptation, Natural Disaster, Water Resource and Water Security, Air Pollution and Human Health, Ecosystem and Biodiversity, Combating Desertification, Energy Security, S&T Policy and Strategy on Sustainable Development, and Big Data.

Human Well-being Orientations: Agriculture and Food Security, Public Health, Poverty Alleviation, Disaster reduction, and Technology Transfer.

Progress & Activities

Research Progress on the Atmospheric Persistent Organic Pollutants in Indochina Peninsula by Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry of CAS

Recently, led by Professor Zhang Gan of Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as GIG), the project team of the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) joint research cooperation project " Monitoring and Risk Assessment of Toxic Chemicals in the Air, MORATOXA " , significant progress has been made on atmospheric persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the Indo-China Peninsula region of Asia. The paper entitled "Mapping the Contribution of Biomass Burning to Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Air of the Indo-China Peninsula Based on a Passive Air Monitoring Network" was published online on January 19, 2023 in Environmental Science & Technology and was selected as the supplementary cover story.

Research Team of Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences Visited the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka

Recently, at the invitation of the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, a delegation led by Prof. Zhang Gan from the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited Sri Lanka. The delegation included Prof. Li Jun, Associate Professors Zhong Guangcai and Zhao Shizhen. All of them are key members to the ANSO project "Monitoring and Risk Assessment of Toxic Chemicals in the Air, MORATOXA". This visit was to gain an extensive understanding of research advancements and concerns related to toxic air pollutants in the post-COVID-19 era among our Sri Lankan counterparts. Additionally, it aimed to facilitate substantial exchanges and foster cooperation between both parties.

【ANSO Collaborative Research Mid-term Progress】The Impact of Microplastics on Brain Health and Reproductive Health

Plastics including microplastics are now ubiquitous in our environment. According to data released by the United Nations, more than 400 million tons of plastics are produced globally each year, and tens of millions of tons of plastic waste flow into the oceans. Global initiative is required to solve the problem of plastic pollution. At the resumed fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2) in 2022, UNEA Resolution 5/14 entitled “End plastic pollution: Towards an international legally binding instrument” was adopted to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution.

AIRCAS Holds Regional Training Workshop for Satellite Crop Monitoring Using the CropWatch System

The “Regional Training Workshop for Satellite Crop Monitoring using the CropWatch System” took place in Mauritius from 7 to 10 August, 2023. The workshop was jointly organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the Aerospace Information Research Institute, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (AIRCAS) and the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI), Mauritius. Prof. Bingfang Wu and his team from AIRCAS offered the training. 26 officials and experts from national sponsored institutions of 11 countries participated the training, including Mauritius, Nigeria, Algeria, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Cameroon, Lebanon and Syria.

The First ANSO International Training Course on Automobile Technology was Successfully Held

The first ANSO International Training Course on Automotive Technology was successfully held in Hefei and Wuhu, Anhui Province on 17-18 June 2023, with the joint support of the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the School of Engineering Science of the University of Science and Technology of China (SES of USTC), the International College of USTC, and Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. 50 international students from 27 countries were enrolled in this training course.

ANSO Project on Marine Microplastic Pollution Kicked off in Indonesia

The ANSO Collaborative Research project entitled “Assessment and response to the impact of marine microplastic pollution on ecological security in the Coral Triangle” held its launching ceremony at the Indonesian Research Center for Oceanography-BRIN in Jakarta on April 3, 2023. More than 50 participants attended the meeting on-site and online.
