AIR held International Workshop on the Insights in BDS & Ionosphere: Trends for Future Precise Positioning successfully

24 12, 2021 | By ABDS-ID and its demonstration over B&R

In order to promote the applications of BDS high-precise and smart positioning in Belt and Roads (B&R) countries, the International Workshop on the Insights in BDS & Ionosphere: Trends for Future Precise Positioning was successfully held on December 1, 2021 in Beijing, China. It is supported by the Alliance of International Sciences Organizations (ANSO), and co-organized by the Aerospace Information Research institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (AIR/CAS), International Associate of Geodesy (IAG), Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn in Poland (UWM), King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in Thailand (KMITL). The workshop attracted around 100 participants from more than 10 countries and areas.

The workshop was host by Prof. Zishen Li from AIR, one of the leaders of ANSO joint research projects, and invited Prof. Andrzej, the Chair of Ionosphere Workgroup from the International GNSS Services (IGS), and Prof. Likun Ai, an Assistant Executive Director of ANSO Secretariat to give opening remarks. More than eight Professors from China, Thailand, Poland, Germany, France and Russia were invited to give presentations on the understandings of BDS ionosphere in the frame of high-precise and smart positioning and share new ideas and achievements.

During the discussion session, those invited guests provided much valuable recommendations on the topics of requirement of BDS high-precise position from automatic drive, processing strategies of ionospheric delay for BDS, confidence monitoring of ionosphere and mitigation of ionosphere scintillations and anomaly on BDS, as well as an agreement on the joint construction of BDS ionosphere monitoring stations and experiments. As one of the important academic activities of IGS ionosphere workgroup, the workshop is very advantageous to promote the applications of BDS high-precise and smart positioning over the B&R countries, particularly in the frame of ANSO.

Additionally, the workshop is supported by the ANSO joint research project named the advanced methodology development of BDS precise positioning for Autonomous Vehicles (ABDS-AV). ABDS-AV aims to build a BDS high-precision positioning service platform, i.e. BDSMART, to empower BDS augmented autonomous and smart applications in B&R countries, thus supporting the innovation, decent work and economic growth of related countries required by United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8&9).
